Doug Esdaile ran a business making mailbags from a small factory in inner Sydney, and had expanded into shade sail fabrication. He was continually asked for a simple structure to support waterproof shade sails.

Doug saw a need for a straightforward connecting system for framed shade structures, one that removed the need for bulky lifting equipment and on-site welding. That idea became the true start of the Triax story.

Not content with a single fitting, Doug expanded the range to include end caps and tensioning bars, enabling a full structure to be built simply, quickly, and without any welding at all.
